Cabine 0.10: folders, next-track suggestions, and an open beta

Cabine, our DJ library app for Mac, reaches 0.10 with folders and playlists, next-track suggestions, and clearer imports. The beta is open to everyone.

Cabine is our DJ library app for Mac. It reads your Serato crates, Rekordbox playlists and Mixed In Key analysis, keeps them in one place, and exports your library back to Serato, Rekordbox, or a USB stick for Pioneer players.

Your cues land on the same beat, whatever software you play. And Cabine is careful with your files. It never edits a track in place: it writes the change into a hidden copy, compares every tag with the original, and only then moves the copy into place. If anything changed that you did not ask for, the write is refused, and a crash never leaves a half-written track. Your library stays on your Mac: no account, no telemetry, nothing sent to us.

Version 0.10 is out to beta testers, and the beta is open: anyone can sign up. We’ll be sending the invites in batches.

Folders and playlists

You can now sort playlists into folders, as in Rekordbox. Use File → New Folder or File → New Playlist. Select a folder and you see every track in the playlists below it.

What to play next

In Session mode, Cabine suggests tracks that match the one on deck A. You choose the key moves on the Camelot wheel, a BPM window of 4, 8 or 12 %, the energy, and the playlists to search or leave out. Load a suggestion into deck B to try the mix, or add it to your session. The two decks now sit on one grid, face to face.

Smaller changes

If an import finds a file it cannot read, it skips that file and goes on. At the end, it lists every file it could not take.

Hot cue colors are kept in the Rekordbox XML export and on the USB stick.

Join the beta

You need a Mac with Apple Silicon and macOS 15 Sequoia or later. The app is in English. Sign up on the Cabine page, and we’ll send you an invite to download.

Rudra 1.1.1: a cleaner kit and hand letters in your language

Rudra 1.1.1 has no new mode. It fixes the details you notice while you practice: hand letters in your language, a kit that no longer distorts, and miss marks you can trust.

Rudra 1.1.1 has no new mode. It is an update about the details you notice while you practice: the letters under your notes, the sound of the kit, and the marks that show how you played. It is on the App Store and Google Play now.

Your hands, in your language

A sticking pattern tells you which hand plays each note. Until now, Rudra wrote L and R in every language. But a French drummer reads G and D, for gauche and droite, and Portuguese and Spanish drummers read E and D or I and D. Rudra now uses the letters of the app’s language, in the circles, the editor and the legend, so the pattern on screen looks like the one your teacher writes.

The Portuguese version also moves to European Portuguese, because Rudra is sold in Europe.

A kit that sounds clean

On a downbeat, the kick, the crash and the hi-hat often land together. Before 1.1.1, those sounds added up to more than the output can carry, and the result distorted. Now every drum goes through one master level with headroom and a limiter, so a full downbeat stays clean.

We also balanced the drums again, by ear. The kick used to sit under the snare and toms; now it doesn’t. The count-in click had become the loudest sound in the kit, so it is softer now.

Marks you can trust

With an e-drum kit, Rudra shows each hit as on time, early, late, or missed. A miss should mean one thing: you did not play a note you were asked to play. In a few cases, Rudra marked misses you could not do anything about. 1.1.1 fixes them.

If you mute a drum, it no longer collects misses. Marks from before your kit connected are cleared when it connects. If your first note lands a little early, during the count-in, it now counts as a hit. And if you change a pattern while it plays, your results stay on screen.

Smaller fixes

The screen now stays on while a pattern plays, so you can practice without touching it. On iPhone, the calibration click plays even when the silent switch is on. On Android, a pattern you export to Google Drive is saved correctly, and you can import it again.

Rudra 1.0: drum practice in your language

Rudra 1.0 is out for iPhone, iPad and Android: grooves on a rhythm circle, sticking drills, and timing feedback on every hit from your e-drum kit, in four languages.

Rudra 1.0 is on the App Store and Google Play, for iPhone, iPad and Android. It is the first app from Aeris Nova.

Where it comes from

Rudra started in drum lessons. The teacher used an app built on the rhythm circle: one ring per drum, with each note in its place on the loop. A circle makes a rhythm easy to see, and each drum can loop its own pattern. At home, on an e-drum kit, the practice app we used was in English only. Rudra puts the two together: the circle from the lesson, and feedback for practice at home, in the language the student learns in.

What 1.0 does

Pick a groove, from funk, jazz, rock or world styles, and set the tempo. Mute drums to work on one part, then bring the others back one at a time. Sticking drills train your hands on accents, drags, paradiddles and other rudiments, with the hand for each note next to standard notation.

Connect an e-drum kit over MIDI and Rudra shows every hit as you play it: early, late, miss, or on time. Rudra has mappings for common kits, you can build your own mapping for any other kit, and a latency calibration keeps the feedback tight. Without a kit, Rudra plays the pattern for you to follow.

With Rudra Pro, the pattern editor lets you write your own patterns and share them, from drummer to drummer or from teacher to student.

Rudra is in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. It needs no account and works offline.

Jorge, our founder, wrote the longer story of how Rudra was built on his site.
